One of the delights about belonging to a small church is that it is easy to gather people together to enjoy each other’s company without a great deal of advance notice. That’s not to say that at St. Barnabas we do things on a whim, but we are able to organize events quickly, and we can count on everyone to pitch in and help make something happen when necessary.
We typically mark special occasions such as Shrove Tuesday, St. Barnabas Day, and the end of summer with an indoor party or outdoor picnic, and our potluck lunches and suppers are justly famous. In addition, we get together after the 10 a.m. service on the first and third Sunday of each month for coffee, tea, and refreshments in our parish hall, and during the summer we gather on the lawn outside the church for a refreshing glass of lemonade and something to eat. (Did you ever know a church whose members don’t like to eat?) We have also organized a trivia night in the parish hall with a local MC – just one of the ideas we have explored and accomplished in the pursuit of fellowship and fun.
As mentioned elsewhere on this website, we do our best to give back to the community around us by supplying goods and services to shelters, families and individuals in need, an afterschool program, a residential facility for people suffering from memory disorders, and the Central Maryland Correctional Facility in Sykesville. We believe in Mother Teresa’s statement that given our resources as a small church, “it is not necessary to do something great, but to do something with great love.”
If you have an idea for a ministry or event you would like us to consider, please be in touch via email or phone with our parish administrator or priest. We will take things from there!
