First, we are glad to have you with us! If you are new to the Episcopal Church, our priest, Fr. Tim, will be happy to meet with you to help you understand the traditions and doctrines of the Church, which is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. This is an international network of churches whose origins spring from the traditional Anglican worship of the English church, whose first Book of Common prayer was published in 1549. Clicking on the hyperlink in the first line above will take you to the website of the national Episcopal Church, where you will find all kinds of information about what makes us tick.
What distinguishes the Anglican churches throughout the world is that every country’s prayer book is derived, in essence, from the original 1549 book. So, no matter where you may find yourself, if you walk into an Anglican church abroad you will easily be able to participate in the service! Our presiding bishop, the Most Reverend Michael B. Curry, colloquially describes the Episcopal Church in this country as “the American branch of the worldwide Jesus Movement,” which kind of tells it like it is. We are proud of our heritage and look forward eagerly to what awaits us in future.
Above all, please don’t hesitate to ask questions and request information. Fr. Tim will be happy to help you, and you’ll find the St. Barnabas community to be a welcoming bunch of people!
