Welcome the Rev. Mark S. Delcuze!
This Sunday, we welcome the Rev. Mark S. Delcuze to St. Barnabas! The Rev. Mark S. Delcuze retired from Christ Church Parish (Kent Island, MD) in 2023, having served 40 years as a priest in 8 parishes in 6 different dioceses. He has a special interest in ecumenical and inter-faith dialogue and has worked with parishes experiencing trauma from clergy misconduct. In a decade at Christ Church Parish, Rev. Mark aided growth and eliminated $1.1 million dollars of indebtedness. During that time he also served as Convocation Dean, on the Diocesan Standing Committee and Diocesan Council. Since retirement, Rev. Mark has remained active including: Long-Term Clergy Supply in 6 parishes, Chair of the Easton Deputation for the 81st General Convention, and Board President of the Corporation for the Relief of Widows and Orphans. He and his wife Mimi have two married daughters and five grandchildren. They now live in Annapolis.
Apple Cider Sundays
As we transition into fall, our summer Lemonade Sundays have also transitioned into Apple Cider Sundays! All are welcome to gather outside, weather-permitting, to chat, have a little something to munch on and a delicious beverage to drink. Cold or warm apple cider; the temperature will decide! Apple Cider Sundays are generously hosted by parishioners, and thank you in advance to Mandy Wilburn for this coming Sunday. Here is the list the rest of September – Sept. 20: Pat Lochran and Linda Voyce and Sept. 27: Pam Jacobs. If supplies are running low, or you would like to help, please contact Jeanette Ravendhran.
People Helping People – Important Update
The People Helping People (PHP) Project is the brainchild of the Rev. Mary Walton, a former deacon in the Episcopal Church, and her husband, Daniel. Mary, who died of ovarian cancer in March 2025, wanted this project to serve as her legacy. It was established at St. Barnabas to help individuals and families in critical need of assistance. All donations to the project go directly to individuals or families that have been carefully identified. We have now transferred the PHP Project account to Christ Episcopal Church, Georgetown, where Daniel Walton is a member. Any donations should be sent directly to Christ Episcopal Church (3116 O Street, NW, Washington, DC 20007, or www.christchurchgeorgetown.org).
Two Opportunities to Get Involved at St. Barnabas!
- Church Sign Help – We are looking for someone to occasionally change the message on our church sign at the corner of Forsythe and W. Friendship Roads. The job is easy! Find a catchy quote, open the sign, and change the letters. Nancy Gerwig is happy to help get you started.
- Facebook Help – We are in need of a new moderator for our church Facebook page! Main duties include posting upcoming events and “In the Life of the Church” photos provided by congregants.

Loose Change Ministry -> Using Change to Make a Change
Several years ago, St. Barnabas began collecting loose change as an easy way to raise money to donate to worthy causes. Whenever the jug is filled, parishioners are asked to submit a guess as to the total amount of money it contains. The person whose guess is the closest to the correct amount wins the world-famous St. Barnabas cheese ball (and bonus crackers!) Save your loose change and help fill the jug to support a charity!
We Are All God’s Stewards
As we will soon begin our fall Stewardship drive, here is a reminder from the Episcopal Church of what stewardship means: “Stewardship is about being grateful, responsible stewards of the gifts we receive from God. The tradition of giving back to God and to the church comes from the Biblical practice of ‘tithing,’ which means to give back a tenth of our earnings to God (Numbers 18:26). The Episcopal Church sees stewardship as more than simply contributing money to the church; it’s also about contributing time and talents and volunteering for ministry and mission. It’s about reaching out to build relationships from a perspective of abundance instead of scarcity.”
